Orphan
The naarative of Orphan trailer consists of a nuclear family and the parents decide to adopt another young girl. They then go to an orphange and the parents seemed to be very fond of a little girl called Esther and they decide thats who they want to adopt. However, when they take Esther home the family realise that she is finding it hard to adapt and theres something wrong with her. However, we then find out that Esther is in fact a 30-year old woman in a childs body who tries to sexually seduce thefather and tries to kill the rest of the family, especially the mother. Esther's plan backfries as at the film of the film the father and Esther both die and the rest of the family survies. The genre for the film is horror/thriller.
From only watching the trailer we learn that the couple want to adopt another child, they bring Esther home however she beings to have trantrums and acts abnormal and they realise that theres something wrong with her as Esther's aim is to try and ruin the family by trying to kill them espect for the father. This is achieved by the dialogue used in the trailer for example when Esther says 'I love you daddy' and 'I have a suprise for you mummy'. For an orphan we would expect Esther to be more attached to the mother however, this is not the case as she tries to bring herself closer with the father and some people may view this as abit strange. Also, by Esther using words such as 'daddy' and 'mummy' try to present her to be quite innocent and child-like this is ironic as she is infact a 30-year old woman.
During the beginning of the trailer there are more mid-shots as everything is calm however, there are more close-ups when Esther tires to kill the family, by having close-ups it creates more effect and many jump shots are also included. However, no voice over is used.
The narrative order of the shots in the same order as it happens in the film.
In the trailer there is a total of 107 shots used.
During the end of the trailer the pace of editing increases becuaase this is when the main events take place and they need more editing to make the trailer look more like a thriller and more likely to scare the audience more.
In the trailer there are no fades or wipes the whole trailr is in colour and runs smoothly usin different shots in different scences however, some black screen transitions are used. The black screens create suspence of what might happen next and it builds up tention and makes the audience more aware.
When the nun who works at the orphange says 'theres something wrong with Esther', the text appears on a white background with black writing, This links to the visuals because in the scence we can visually see that Esther is not acting how a normal child would act as she plans to kill and has many trantrums. This sests up the narrative of the film becuase it relates to the title, the texrt also builds up more suspence as to whats wrong with Esther.
At the beginning of the trailer the music is calm and soothing by using this type of music it creates a happy atmosphere because Esther is being adopted into a loving home. However, now the parents know somethings wrong with her the music is more tense and dramatic Esther starts to act differently to how a normal child may act.
Lastly, at the beginning of the trailer long shots and mid shots are mainly used at the orphange, school, thier house. Then close-up shots are used when Esther begins to chnage and she begins to scream. Then more close-ups occur when Esther strikes to kill and long shots again to show the effect of this. Also, more close-ups of the families reactions to her behaviour.
